- Check you closed the washing machine lid fully. The washing machine may fill with water when the washer lid is open but it will not commence agitation while the lid is open. Close the lid firmly so that it latches into position. Find the lid switch or magnet, which is typically located on the bottom right side of the washer lid, and make sure that no debris, lint or dirt is covering the switch or magnet and preventing the lid from closing properly.
- The wash cycle has normal pauses, including those between when the washer fills with water to wet the clothes and when it begins to agitate. These pauses may seem long and can last up to three minutes.Wait several minutes to see if the washer moves on and begins to agitate.
- Some washing machines have a timer knob on the washer panel. If the washer lid was lifted open after the wash cycle was initially selected, the lid can push the knob back in, which stops the washing machine. Pull the timer knob out firmly to restart the wash cycle.
- Check the cycle selection, as some soak cycles fill the washing machine with water for 15 to 30 minutes before agitation commences. In addition, check the speed selector speed and reset it to a new speed if necessary.
- If the drain standpipe is less than 30 inches above the ground, the water may immediately drain out of the tub as it fills, which prevents the washer from agitating. Raise the drain hose to 30 inches or more in height, but avoid raising it more than 96 inches above the floor, as this may turn into problems with draining water from the washing machine.
