- 1). Lift the lid of your GE coffee maker and fill the reservoir behind the filter with water. A window on the side of the coffeemaker shows you how much water is in the maker. Each cup mark denotes an 8 oz. cup of water. Most coffee cups hold about 12 oz., so you'll need about 1 1/2 cups of water for each cup of coffee you want.
- 2). Scoop about a tablespoon of coffee into the filter for each cup of coffee you want to brew. Since the filter in a GE coffeemaker is permanent, you don't need to place a filter in the machine before adding coffee grounds.
- 3). Close the lid of your coffee maker. On top of the lid should be a small dial. In front of the dial should be a semi-circle labeled mild on one half and strong on the other.
- 4). Turn the dial to either end of the semi-circle or to any point in the center. Mild coffee is translucent and tastes subtly of coffee. Bold coffee is dark, thick and slightly acid. The average person prefers strength somewhere between the two.
- 5). Press the "Brew" button on the bottom front of your coffee maker. Milder coffee brews quickly because the water spends very little time in the grounds. Stronger coffee brews more slowly because the water steeps in the grounds for a while before running into the carafe.
