How to Attach Trim to Metal Studs

    • 1). Drill a pilot hole in the material the same size as the screw shank.

    • 2). Drill the top three-sixteenths of the hole wider by rotating your drill around the hole. By doing this the screw head will sit just beneath the surface of the trim. All-in-one counter sinks are available at your local home store which drill the pilot hole and countersink the hole in one step.

    • 3). Place a square bit in your drill and install the screw. The screw will spin in place for several turns and then bite into the metal stud. Do not snug the screw up too tight. The heads of trim screws are small and easily sink into the material.
