- 1). Find out the exact dimensions of your slide-in electric range, including the width and the height. As slide-in electric ranges are designed to go into a space in your kitchen that already exists (as opposed to one you're planning on creating through remodeling), the unit must fit with your current configuration. The width will make sure that a slide-in electric range will fit between your cabinets, and the height will make sure the range isn't dramatically taller than your cabinets.
- 2). Compare the capacity of slide-in electric ranges. The capacity refers to the space on the inside of the unit where food is prepared. A larger unit will have a larger capacity, enabling you to cook larger pieces of food like full chickens or turkeys. A smaller capacity will still work fine for day-to-day use, but you won't be able to prepare large amounts of food at the same time (for example, if you're planning a dinner party).
- 3). Find out whether the cook top of your slide-in electric range is a smooth-top or coil element unit. Coil element units have metal coils that heat up and allow you to cook your food. Smooth-top units have no such coils and have designated circles on the top of the unit that get hot for cooking during use. As both types of units still use electricity to generate the heat required for cooking, this decision is largely an aesthetic one and is up to your own personal preferences.
