- 1). Turn off the water to the tub by closing the main water valve in the home. This is located near the water heater.
- 2). Look underneath the spout for a small hole that contains a screw. If you find one, insert an Allen wrench in the hole, turn counter-clockwise to loosen the screw and slide the spout off. If there is no hole, insert the head of a screwdriver into the mouth of the spout and turn the entire unit counter-clockwise to unscrew the spout. Remove it once it is unscrewed, then take the plumber's tape off the end of the spout by unraveling it.
- 3). Replace the plumber's tape on the end of the shower spout pipe, if the spout is the scew-on type. Place the new spout on the end of the pipe over the tape and screw it on until it is tight. If the spout is not a screw-on, slide it over the pipe and push it back until the edge is flush with the wall, then tighten it with the Allen wrench.
- 4). Turn on the water and operate your tub faucet to test the spout for leaks.
