How to Measure a CAT Flange

    • 1). Open the jaws of a pair of digital calipers. Place the jaws inside the center of two bolt holes. Measure the distance between an alternate pair of bolt holes. Use the largest distance apart as the longest bolt hole spacing.

    • 2). Place the jaws of the digital calipers inside the port hole. The port hole is the center hole in the flange where the liquid or gases travel through. Open the jaws to barely touch each side inside the port hole. This is the port hole diameter measurement.

    • 3). Open the calipers jaws and close them on the flange thickness. This is the area that is flat on the flange containing the bolt holes to attach to another component. The calipers should read .560 inches. Caterpillar flanges have the same thickness no matter the size.
