- 1). Purchase a replacement LED from a local electronics store. Be sure that the LED you purchase is the proper size and shape to suit as a replacement.
- 2). Disconnect the power from your computer and open the case. Locate the power LED and observe how it is connected to the computer.
- 3). Carefully disconnect the existing LED from the computer. Depending on the system's setup, it may be attached to a simple plug connector that can be pulled loose or connected to a small circuit board, requiring a soldering iron for removal. After disconnecting the LED, firmly pull on the connections to remove it from the computer casing.
- 4). Push the new LED firmly into place. Connect the power connector in the same way it was disconnected from the old LED. The positive power supply (as indicated by a red cord or a plus sign on a circuit board) will be attached to the longer connector on the new LED.
- 5). Close the computer case, reconnect the power supply and power on the system. The new LED will light when the computer is powered on.
