How to Spray Epoxy Primer

    • 1). Clean the object thoroughly with trisodium phosphate and rags. TSP is a powerful cleaner and will strip the object of any surface oils. The surface must be completely clean before you apply epoxy primer.

    • 2). Sand the surface with medium-grit sandpaper to create a rough texture. The texture on the surface of the object will allow the primer to better adhere. Wipe away all sanding dust with a damp rag.

    • 3). Shake the epoxy primer can for two minutes.

    • 4). Remove the plunger from the top of the can and insert it in the bottom of the can at the indicated location. This will release and mix the two epoxy components. Mixing instructions will vary by brand. Read the instructions on the back of the can carefully.

    • 5). Hold the spray primer 10 to 14 inches from the surface to be painted. Move the can in a steady back-and-forth motion. Slightly overlap each pass of the spray. Apply a thin base coat. Wait two to five minutes.

    • 6). Apply a second coat of epoxy primer, using the same technique. Allow the primer to dry completely.
