The Benefits of Organic Farming: To Profit Means More Than Just Making Money

In today's industrialized agriculture everything is focused on a maximum of short-term financial profit, regardless of the ecological and social consequences.
The use of herbicides, insecticides and chemical fertilizers destroys likewise the health of the soil and the health of people, leaving behind an agricultural dessert.
Big global enterprises, installing vast mono cultures, cause incurable damage to existing social structures and are responsible for the extinction of thousands of species at more and more accelerating speed.
The concept of organic farming however follows a road into a completely different direction.
At our organic farm the integrity of nature is considered the biggest treasure by both moral and economic standards.
The integrity of the nature surrounding us, is an essential part of healthy living.
People benefit not solely from fresh air, clean water and healthy food, but as well from the beauty of the landscape, an extremely important benefit for the soul and in consequence for our physical health.
Therefore organic farming aims strongly on the protection of nature.
We are well aware of economic necessities, yet we are profoundly convinced, that respect for our natural resources in the long run will also proof to be an economical advantage.
One of our most important goals at the moment is to preserve ancient olive trees, even if they are not any longer fully productive, and to maintain naturally grown environments.
In the course of the last decades some of the ancient abandoned olive groves around, have been overgrown by mediterranean macchia, a typical low woodland with broom, wild roses, laurel, holm oaks and many other trees and shrubs.
Thus nature has formed a multitude of wonderful new micro environments.
The clearing of this Mediterranean macchia, with the objective to regain a maximum production of olive oil, would cause unjustifiable ecological damage.
In consequence instead of focusing on maximizing short-term financial profit it is our aim to save the existing small habitats with their rare animals and plants.
We make the olive trees carefully accessible again and give them the care they need for surviving and thriving without destroying the existing biodiversity.
We are convinced that this is a real investment in our future and the future of our children.
