Poster art has always been an expressionists playground.
From dogs on velvet canvas playing poker to brightly colored symmetrical shapes viewed best under a black light and under the influence.
Now, energy saving posters are becoming popular with a culture that is growing uneasy with direction, or lack of direction, that the world is taking concerning the future of developing renewable energy sources and conserving fossil fuels while we still have them.
Clever green artists are now putting their ideas down on poster boards for all the world to see, and the results are impressive.
One series of energy saving posters depicts various exotic or endangered species performing simple energy conservation tasks such as turning off electronic equipment or installing solar panels with the tagline "if you (the consumer) don't do these simple things then who will? Most green posters illustrate the need for conservation in a witty manner using either animals as the basis of the message or some attention getting catchphrase that makes the spectator take pause to reflect on the message.
Still others show horrific images that are intended to shock the viewer into action.
Most energy saving posters are reminders to do the things we need to do in order to preserve our non renewable resources.
They prompt us to turn it off, shut it down, plug the leak, set the thermostat or stop the waste.
They show a sickly earth with a thermometer in it's mouth with a warning relating to the planet's deteriorating health.
Many of them are reminders of events such as earth day or some green rally or spectacle.
However, without doubt the most popular and effective are the ones illustrating animals that in their own cute way to scold their human counterparts about their lack of conservation awareness.
Whatever your preference, serious, shocking or humorous there has become a need for some green artists to focus their time and talent to addressing our growing energy crisis.
