How to Put a Window Back on Track in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT

    • 1). Remove the trim panel and water guard from the door. If your Grand Am has power windows or locks, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Use the trim removal tool and screwdriver to remove each piece of trim from the door, as well as the window or lock operating switches (for power windows and locks). Disconnect electrical connectors as you go. To remove the main piece of trim on a manually operated window, you must remove the operating handle. Remove the water guard between and door and the door trim by peeling it off carefully.

    • 2). Lower the window so it can be observed properly. If your window is too far up you may not be able to see the cause of the problem.

    • 3). Determine the cause of the problem. Look over the parts that operate the window to see what caused it to come off track. Common problems are rollers that have broken or come out of place.

    • 4). Put your window back on track. If your window has come out of place and nothing is broken, move it back into place. If a part has broken, replace the part. Roll the window up and down all the way to ensure proper operation before you reinstall the door trim.
