How to Change the Brakes on a 2005 Dodge Ram Truck

    • 1). Loosen the lug nuts on all four wheels of the Dodge Ram. Raise the Dodge Ram off of the ground and rest the frame on jack stands. Pull the wheels off of the axles. The frame should be completely off of the ground, and all four wheels should be off of the axles.

    • 2). Remove or loosen the retaining nuts on the rear right and left sides of the calipers with a ratchet set. You will need a ratchet set because Dodge produces a few different models of the Ram truck, and all of them use different-sized nuts and bolts.

    • 3). Pull the calipers off of the rotors and pull the two brake pads from the calipers manually. Place the push arm on the C-clamp onto the piston in the center of the caliper. Place the frame of the C-clamp onto the rear of the caliper and turn the handle until the piston is pushed back into the frame of the calipers. Do this one caliper at a time.

    • 4). Slide the replacement brake pads into the calipers and replace the calipers onto the top of the rotors. Tighten the retaining nuts on the rear of the calipers with the ratchet set. Reinstall the wheel onto the frame and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.

    • 5). Change the opposite set of brakes on the truck so that the balance is not compromised.

    • 6). Raise the frame of the Dodge Ram and remove the jack stands then lower the truck to the ground.
