If you wish to stay healthy, or recover from almost any illness, then taking nutritional supplements is essential.
Why do we need nutritional supplements? Well there are several reasons, so let's take a look at some of the major ones.
First of all, we evolved over millions of years requiring a high calorie diet.
In the past, man was much more physically active, requiring energy to keep warm, hunt, gather, fish and fight.
However, today, we do not need nearly as much energy to start the car, and drive to the grocery store.
Thus, we simply do not need to eat as much.

Another reason nutritional supplements are important is because many of the trace elements from the soil are being depleted.
We do not cycle them back into the soil, so many of the fresh foods we do eat do not have as many nutrients and minerals as they once did.
Thus, as the trace elements in the soil are being depleted and not replaced, we too are becoming deficient.
The next thing to consider is the fact that plants cannot absorb trace elements directly from the soil, thus they rely on fungi to absorb soil water and trace elements and put them into a bioavailable form for the plants to absorb.
Unfortunately artificial nitrogen and pesticides kill these fungi and give us malabsorbing plants.
Also, because it is easier at times, we tend to eat foods which have been processed, so many nutrients are lost, and these losses are accelerated by sugars, caffeine, alcohol and other things that, while they taste good, are harmful to our bodies.
And lastly, we are increasingly exposed to toxins which require vitamins and minerals for their excretion, and we just aren't getting enough vitamins and minerals to do so.
These toxins effectively increase our needs for all nutrients, and this is why we see such problems as iron deficiency (anemia).
There are toxins in almost everything, from the air we breathe to the water we drink, and even in the fillings that are put in our teeth at the dentist.
So, we need nutritional supplements because our need for nutrients is rising, while their availability is decreasing.
Natural forms of vitamins and minerals are best, but when you can't get enough from nature, it is best to supplement.
