How to Connect a Dishwasher to a Sink

    • 1). Turn off the power to the dishwasher circuit. This will usually be at the electrical main panel for your house or apartment.

    • 2). Move the dishwasher so that you can gain access to the back panel. If the dishwasher is already installed beneath the cabinet, you will have to unscrew it from the mounting racks in order to move it. Get an assistant to help you if it is heavy.

    • 3). Attach one end of the drain hose to the drain exit on the back of the dishwasher. Slip the drain hose over the nipple and secure it in place with the hose clamp.

    • 4). Run the other end of the dishwasher hose to the tail piece on the underside of the sink. This is the straight piece that connects directly to the drain above. Attach the hose to the inlet on the side of the tail piece. Secure it in place with another hose clamp.

    • 5). Restore power to the dishwasher and run an empty load. Watch the drain line and check for leaks. Tighten any clamps if necessary.
