- 1). Open the breech of your shotgun. If the gun is break action, break it open; slide the pump of a pump-action back; etc. Make sure you have access to the chamber and the back of the barrel.
- 2). Drop the small weight at one end of the bore snake down the barrel from the breech end. The weight should reach all the way to the end of a 26-inch barrel without dragging the cleaning elements into the barrel.
- 3). Grab the weight and pull the threading through so that the flossy cleaning area of the bore snake is drawn into the barrel. This section removes larger pieces of grit and grime so they cannot scratch the barrel.
- 4). Continue pulling the weight and thread until the entire bore snake is drawn into the barrel from the breech end, passing entirely through the chamber. The resistance will increase as the wider parts of the bore snake enter the barrel.
- 5). Pull the bore snake entirely through, increasing force as necessary to keep the cleaner moving against the increasing friction.
