How to unblock a toilet drain

The toilets occasionally get blocked. If the toilet is slow in going down or is not flushing at all means that your toilet is blocked. Blocked toilets are dreadful, and most inconvenient. The worst part is its smelly and whole of your house starts stinking. Definitely blocked toilet is a very unpleasant site.

Unblocking toilets can be a relatively easy, but still dirty job. The key here is to have the right tools. It is also necessary to wear a very good pair of rubber gloves. We will not go into the diseases toilets and waste pipes can carry, but trust us, you do not want any of them!

But to get rid off all the mess, you need to unblock the toilet. The blocking mostly occurs due to some strange objects in the pipe or due to the use of hundreds of toilet paper. Sometimes though it may be sewer system blockage.

Here are simple tips that will assist you in one of the most unpleasant jobs. The tools that you will require are a pair of thick rubber gloves, Plunger, clearing rods, bucket, auger, some kitchen towels, etc. The first thing is spread some kitchen sheets around the toilet. This is just in case if water flows out while unblocking the toilet. The next step is to check the water level. If the water level is too high then remove the water using a jug or via siphon using a hoarse. Then, the next step is the use plunger. The plunger is the key tool to unblock the toilet. You should use the plunger with the right technique. Press it hard and pull it out slowly. Continue the process to remove the blockage completely and flush the toilet.

If this method does not solve your problem use other method: For compacted blockages, try using a flexible metal wire with a handle, called a toilet auger (you can get these at plumbers' merchants). Feed the wire into the pan and wind the handle when the wire meets the obstruction. Pull out the blockage and flush the toilet several times. Next, lift the drain cover nearest to the loo to see if the chamber is full of water. If so, the blockage is further along the soil pipe. If the chamber is empty, the blockage is in the soil pipe from the loo to the chamber or in the toilet pan. Use drain cleaning rods or call out a drain cleaning company if the blockage isn't in the toilet. Another useful tip is to consider draining water from your toilet pan. If the water level in the pan of your WC is high, you should consider this. Try using any old container to bale out the water first or you can use a hose to siphon it off. You can also try pouring hot or boiling water down the pan as an alternative to using caustic soda. Often this can be helpful and will break down clogged up matter down your waste pipe.

Chemical cleaners can be useful for dissolving too much toilet paper or lighter blockages. Always wear rubber gloves and flush the toilet several times to remove the chemical. Keep a couple of local plumbers' cards or numbers in the kitchen just in case. Try to remove hard objects rather than pushing them further down the soil pipe and causing problems in the drains.

If none of these solutions work then you have a really severe toilet plug and you should consult a professional plumber. If the plug is in deep enough in the pipes a plumber might have to take the toilet and/or the pipes apart. Regardless trying to unblock toilet is important and isn't something you can just let sit until later, you need to fix it immediately, whatever the cost.
