How Do I Set a Camera to Use an SD Card?

    • 1). Look for the card slot on your camera. The slot for memory is typically on the bottom of the camera or on one side, with a covering that can be pulled open with the tip of a finger.

    • 2). Open the memory slot and slide your new memory card into your camera. Be cautious. In some models the metal prongs on the card go up and in some models they go down. Try one way. If there is any resistance, you're putting it in the wrong way. Don't try to force it in. When you have the card facing the correct way, it will push smoothly into the slot and click into place.

    • 3). Close the cover over your memory card and bring up the menu on your camera. You want to format the card for your camera. To do this, go to your settings, find your card options and choose the format card function. This will format the memory card to work with your camera.

    • 4). Set up your camera to save images on your card. Do this by going to the set-up menu on your camera, locating the save options and selecting the "Save to External Memory" option. Camera brands vary, so the wording may vary, but you want to save to external rather than internal. This will set your camera up to work with your card.
