Basics of How to Make Floating Candleholders

Floating candle holder decorations are very nice, and popular, for special occasions such as weddings or parties.
These floating candleholders are also not hard to make.
In fact you can easily make the complete candle holder and even the floating candles.
The completed decoration requires just a few things - typically a glass container, some embellishments to decorate the bottom, water and candles.
The size of the completed candleholder will be dictated by where you will be placing it.
In other words, if it is going on a larger table you will need a larger glass container or multiple smaller containers.
You wouldn't want to put a large glass container on a small table cause it would simply look out of proportion.
For embellishments in the bottom of the container, you could add marbles, beads, crystals or fiber, to name a few.
You also might not want anything.
You may prefer to just float some candles on the top.
Or if you want to get really fancy and elegant you can buy submersible lights.
For your candles, you can buy any of quite a variety of candles from your plain, simple round candles to funny, shaped candles.
However, if you want to make floating candles, you can easily do that too.
If you have never made a candle before, it would be wise to search the net and get a basic understanding of the candle making process, for making floating candles are made the same way as other candles.
A few points on making floating candles: 1.
) Waxes float so that is one thing you don't need to worry about - keeping it floating.
2.
) One concern is that the candle floats properly.
To get your candle to be stable in the water, the shape of it is very important.
A plain long cylindrical candle will probably not stay upright in its floating.
Its center of balance would be high and would want to lean or fall over.
However, if the candle dimensions are wide and shallow, rather than long and thin, the candle will float much better.
It also helps if the top of the candle is larger than the bottom.
3.
) You can buy molds to make floating candles or you can use something around the house like muffin or cup cake tins or even cookie cutters.
If you have a series of cookie cutters of different sizes, i.
e.
, large to small, they make for interesting look.
4.
) If you are using just plain water, you can add dye to the candles and make colored candles, or you can use white candles and color the water.
It just depends on the look you are trying to achieve.
The bottom line is that if you have at least a little creativity, you can easily make your own candleholder and even floating candles.
The items needed are not that great and usually don't cost that much.
You can make anything from the most elegant centerpiece for weddings to the simplest for seasonal or birthday parties.
Just search the net for ideas and get your supplies at your local craft store or from around your home.
You'll be proud of your accomplishments.
