- 1). Wash your hands. Because of the susceptibility of piercings to infections, make sure your hands are clean first by washing them with antibacterial soap before you begin removing your labret piercing.
- 2). Clean the inside and outside areas of your piercing. Rinse the inside of your mouth with a solution of mouthwash and water, and swab the outside of your piercing with a saline or saltwater solution.
- 3). Take hold of the front part of the piercing with your dominant hand.
- 4). Take hold of the part of the piercing inside your mouth with your other hand.
- 5). Twist off the front part of the piercing. The front ball or decorative tip of your labret should come off without much effort. Turn the part that people can see on your face to the left while holding the other side of the barbell, the part that remains in your mouth.
- 6). Slide the barbell part further toward the inside of your mouth until all the way out, and then pull it out of your mouth through your open lips.
- 7). See a professional if you have trouble removing your labret piercing, it becomes embedded in your skin or you develop an infection. Professional piercers use tools specially designed for removing difficult piercings safely and minimizing the risk of infection.
