How to Troubleshoot an LG Tromm Dryer

    • 1). Check the power supply. Make sure the dryer is firmly plugged in and the outlet is switched on, if necessary. Test the outlet by plugging in a lamp or other small appliance. If the lamp does not light, check your home's fuses or breakers. Most electric domestic dryers use two fuses -- if just one is blown the dryer may spin but not heat. Contact an electrician if you are not confident resetting or replacing fuses and breakers.

    • 2). Make sure the gas shutoff valves are open and the dryer can draw gas, if necessary. Most gas shutoff valves are located behind the dryer at the wall. You should also make sure the main gas shutoff valve for your home is open. Contact a professional if you are not confident touching gas shutoff valves.

    • 3). Check the clothes you are putting into the dryer. If you are drying dirty or a mix of clean and dirty clothes you may find stains are transferred during the cycle. Make sure the clothes you dry are completely clean from the washer.

    • 4). Empty the lint filter if you find lint on your clothes. You should remove and clean the lint screen after every cycle to keep your dryer running efficiently. Try not to mix lint producing fabrics like towel and chenille with lint attracting fabrics such as corduroy. Excess lint is also caused by overloading the dryer or tissue left in the pockets of clothes.

    • 5). Add fabric softener to your wash to reduce excess static. Synthetic fibers like polyester can become statically charged during the cycle, especially if they are over-dryed. Reduce the time you allow clothes to dry if they come out hot to the touch. Overloading the dryer can cause excess static.

    • 6). Check the laundry labels on your clothes and dry like fabrics together. A mixture of fabrics can result in inconsistent drying. Heavier items like towels and duvets will take longer, while light items like sheets and T-shirts will dry faster. Under-loading the dryer can also result in inconsistent results.

    • 7). Remove clothes from the dryer immediately after the cycle is complete to reduce wrinkling. If you leave clothes in the dryer for several hours after the cycle completes you may have to iron your clothes separately.

    • 8). Contact LG if these troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem. You may be entitled to free service if your dryer is within its warranty period. To inquire about service, call (877) 714-7486 in the United States or Canada with your model number, serial number and ZIP code ready.
