- 1). Check the window frame intended for the air conditioner (A/C) to make sure it's in good condition. Choose a window as near the center of the room as possible with an electrical outlet within the range of the A/C cord.
- 2). Raise the window and place the air-conditioner into the window frame. Have a helper pull the window down onto the top of the A/C with the upper steel flange support of the A/C flush against the lower sash of the window.
- 3). Place a torpedo level onto the outer casing of the A/C to ensure it is tilted slightly out from the window for condensation draining. Reach through either of the open sides of the window to do this.
- 4). Spread the accordion side panels of the A/C outward to each side of the frame. Tighten the side panel retaining screws using the appropriate screwdriver. The screws secure the panels to the lower sash.
- 5). Install foam weather stripping between the upper sash and the window glass to fill the gap created by the partially open window.
- 6). Turn the A/C control switch to the "Off" position and plug the cord into the nearest three-prong, grounded outlet.
- 7). Turn the A/C unit on to the desired setting.
