- A gas furnace may not produce sufficient heat or any heat at all. Its pilot light may intermittently go out, not light or fail to ignite the burner. A gas furnace making atypically loud noises may also need maintenance or repairs.
- If the pilot light is out, the problem may be with either the power supply, such as from a blown fuse or gas supply, such as an empty tank or a shut valve. The furnace could have a faulty igniter, pressure switch, rollout switch or a problem with one of the safety limits on the furnace's control board. Alternatively, the burner ports, blower fan or pilot orifice may need cleaning.
- To prevent gas furnace problems clean the filters monthly and replace them as often as necessary. Every year, clean the blower's blades and lubricate its motor. Check the belts connecting motor and pulleys to see if they're worn and, if so, change them.
