How to Patch a Vinyl Pool Liner

    • 1). After you've located the holes, I suggest putting a bit of black electrical tape by the hole so that you can easily "mark" it which will make it easier to find later when you're ready to "dive in" and do the repairs.

There are several different types of pool repair kits on the market. Make sure you purchase one that is for vinyl swimming pools.

Read the instructions on the back and set-up a work area.

We have extra vinyl that was excess from when our new vinyl liner was replaced a few years ago. I highly recommend you keep this in mind when you do get a new liner or if you do get a replacement liner. Keep a supply of the vinyl for later.

Cut out a circle allowing it to be a bit larger then the hole. Not too large, not too small but just right!

Apply the glue generously to the area.

      Have a plan!

Depending on where the hole is located, talk with your partner:

      *Who will place the patch?
*Who will be the life line?

In this article, my husband is doing the patching and I am responsible for holding him under the water! (What fun I know!) If the neighbors could see us they would be able to make a funniest video I bet!

With the patch full of glue and ready, I secure myself holding onto the side of the pool with my legs in place under the water. My husband then dives down and uses one arm to hang onto my leg as a guide while I place my other hand onto his back helping to keep him under the water.

    • 8). Once he has securely placed the vinyl patch in place, the trick is to blend and smooth the edges around the circle.

If you press too much the patch will slide around before the water proof glue dries. It may seem a bit slimy so you do need to work fast and keep it smooth!

      Success!

You can carry on and still swim in the pool. Do alert other swimmers about the patch and not to go near it.

      Happy Swimming and pool patching!
