- 1). Position the leg of the compass that holds a pencil on the curved part of the circle.
- 2). Place the pointed end of the compass where you think the circle's center lies. Move the pencil leg of the compass keeping the pointed leg still. The pencil should not leave the edge of the circle if the pointed leg is at the center. Adjust the position of the pointed leg of the compass until the pencil leg does not leave the circle's edge. You now have located the circle's center. Place a dot where the pointed leg of the compass sits.
- 3). Use a ruler to draw a straight line from one edge of the circle to the other that passes through the center. The circle is now split in half. Shade in one side of the circle to create a perfect semicircle.
