Dreaming of Paris

I don't know about you but touring Paris is definitely in my bucket list. The thing about a bucket list, though, is that it comprises of things that are nearly impossible to come true, like, well, touring Paris. But that wouldn't stop me from daydreaming about strolling its streets wearing my Parisian street outfit that's too sartorialist for the Philippines. Where do I go in my daydreams?

The Notre Dame Cathedral

A cathedral that I only saw in a Disney cartoon film before? Yes please, three full servings! The Notre Dame Cathedral is as beautiful as the one in the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. They say I can see Paris from Quasimodo's perspective, up high on the top of this grand structure that took 100 years to be completed!

Arc de Triomphe

Taking a trip to Paris should make you feel grand. But I guess once I step near the Arc de Triomphe, I'd feel a little bit of insecurity. Why? This beautiful and grandiose structure was built for Emperor Napeleon I to feel and express his power over military enemies. Talk about an egotistic and highly effective move.

The Seine River

Thanks to movies and books, I regard Paris and everything in it as the perfect setting for any extravagant experience. This includes taking a boat tour of the Seine River. Touring any Philippine river by boat is regular, normal stuff. But touring the Seine River?! It requires 100 photographs for remembrance, I bet. For 10 euros, the experience must be really magical.

The Louvre

Before I board my flight to Paris, I will make sure to brush up on my arts and history knowledge, so that I can fully appreciate my once in a lifetime trip to the vast Musee de Louvre. Right now all I know is that it houses the Mona Lisa, and a whole lot of other artworks from the past five centuries or so. I might come out of the Louvre as a renewed person of the art, for all I know.

Pere Lachaise

I bet it's only in Paris where I can stroll inside a cemetery and feel romantic instead of freaked out. The Pere Lachaise Cemetery, just like most Paris, France sights and attractions, exude a sense of romance and beauty. It is distinctively striking, and is as rich in history as Paris museums and landmarks. The tombs of remarkable artists can be found in the Cemetery, such as Oscar Wilde's, Richard Wright's and even Jim Morrison's.

The Eiffel Tower

You know that feeling of seeing something over and over in photos, and then finally seeing it in person? Kinda overwhelming right? That's how I'd feel when I see the Eiffel Tower, much like how I'd feel when I finally see Justin Bieber in person. Both sounds corny and cliché, but seeing the famous tower and taking a photo of myself with it in the background is essential. Although it was built in 1889 for a more functional purpose (radiotelegraphy), it ironically stands as the structure that represents the romance and art of the city. It is the definitive Paris attraction – I even have a keychain shaped like the Tower, from a friend who toured Paris a couple of years back!

With group buying sites starting to offer deals on international tours, and with my hopes of affordable airfares, maybe my daydream of going to Paris can become a reality. If, like me, you dream of going to the romantic city, check out international airlines such as Emirates and Cathay Pacific. Local airlines such as Seair and Cebu Pacific are yet to offer flights to the city of love that is Paris.
