People break their glass on the iPhone - 90% of the repairs are broken glass.
Some people break it 2 or 3 times a year.
My son does iPhone and iPod repair for part of his living (he does it part-time).
The part he enjoys most is talking to the customers.
After all, he is their hero.
They are very grateful to him for fixing the phone they love - and make no mistake, people LOVE their iPhones! In fact, you could say it's "Love" that makes the iPhone Repair Business go around.
It really is the start of "Sea Change" in how we humans view small electronic devices.
Until the iPhone, we simply tossed our little devices in the trash and got a new one.
What changed? The iPhone is expensive.
It takes time to get to know it.
The iPhone works really well.
We become dependent on it - we come to love it.
WHY would we throw it away? Can you see why people are hanging on to their old iPhones? Can you see why they are fixing them when they break? Because of the way the 3G and 3GS are put together, we replace the glass and digitizer - always.
It takes a newbie 30 minutes to do it.
A seasoned and exceptionally fast repair person can do it in 3 minutes.
You'll be doing it in about 10 minutes after you do it 20 times.
Net profit? $40.
What's it cost to start doing iPhone repair? You'll need broken iPhones to practice on, so you'll spend about $350 to get 3.
You'll need parts and tools - about $200 (and this will also give you parts for your first customer repairs).
You'll have to pay someone to teach you how to do this.
If you don't get instruction, you'll end up paying out the money anyway, because it's very probable that you'll destroy at least a few iPhones in practice.
There's a lot to know.
However, the time-line to learn enough to get going making money can be as short as 12 days.
You'll also want to be a good student of marketing.
Demand for repair persons is huge, but you still have to let them know you're there! What about competition? Kohl, my son, competes in Southern California very easily.
And he could easily make $100k a year doing repairs if he wanted to work at it full time.
Demand will absolutely explode as Apple allows more cell providers to handle the iPhone.
Kohl also repairs iPods.
Soon, demand for repairing the iPad will be substantial as well.
Thanks, Scott Linden and Family.
