- 1). Open up the photo editing software of your choice. You can use Adobe Photoshop or a free online photo editor such as Picnik.com or Pixlr.com.
- 2). Click on "File" and open the headshot image. If you're using an online photo editor, you will first have to upload the image file. In Photoshop, open the image directly into the program (File > Open > imagefile).
- 3). Select the "crop" tool. This tool is square-shaped with a diagonal line through it. In Photoshop, it is underneath the "lasso" tool and above the spot healing tool.
- 4). Click on the headshot and drag to create a rectangular frame, leaving very little space above the person's head. Crop less tightly along the sides of the face. In Photoshop, you will notice that the rest of the photo is grayed out. This gray area will be cropped, and only the area inside the square -- shown in full color -- will remain.
- 5). Press "Enter" to crop the image.
- 6). Save the file. In Photoshop, click on File > Save. Headshots can be saved as JPG, PNG or any other image format you want.
