How to See What Programs Are Loading at Startup

    • 1). Click on "Start" or the Windows logo on the taskbar at the bottom left of the desktop to show the Start menu. Select "Run" from the menu to open a dialog box. Type "msconfig" in the blank field labeled "Open," then click the "OK" button to open the "System Configuration" utility. Alternatively, type "system configuration" in the search box at the bottom of the Start menu, then press the "Enter" key.

    • 2). Click on the "Startup" tab to bring it into focus.

    • 3). Click on the "Startup Item" column heading to sort the programs alphabetically by name. Alternatively, click on the "Manufacturer" heading to sort by the company that developed the program.

    • 4). Click to remove the check mark next to a program that you do not want start when Windows loads. Click the "Apply" button to confirm the changes, then click "OK" to close the box.
