How to Clean Swimming Pool Covers and Reels

    • 1). Set the sump pump in the deepest area of water that has collected on top of the pool cover. Run the pump to get the majority of the dirty water off the cover.

    • 2). Use a skimming net and pole to get leaves and debris off the pool cover. You won't be able to get every piece, but you can get the majority of it off.

    • 3). Turn on the hose and hose down the reels, clearing out any debris that would block your attempt to roll up the cover. Use a scrub brush and mild detergent on any stubborn dirt.

    • 4). Begin rolling in the pool cover a little at a time. Sweep and hose off the pool cover a section at a time as you roll it in. Do not use detergent on the pool cover because you will have some runoff into the pool. Repeat until the entire pool cover has been cleaned.

    • 5). Allow the pool cover to dry thoroughly before you cover or store it.
