How to Introduce a Goldfish to a Tank

    • 1). Turn off the tank light. Goldfish are calmer in the dark.

    • 2). Place the plastic bag containing the goldfish in the tank unopened. Check the knot is secure and let the bag float for about 20 to 30 minutes. This lets the water temperatures equalize.

    • 3). Untie the knot and let tank water slowly enter the bag.

    • 4). Allow the goldfish to swim out on its own; don't empty the bag into the tank.

    • 5). Turn the light on after half an hour.

    • 6). Wait 2 to 3 hours for the goldfish to settle in before feeding. When the fish seems relaxed and is swimming slowly in the open, feed it a small quantity of crumbled flake food. Goldfish need several small meals a day, and by this point the fish is going to be hungry.
