The plastic peep-toe, sling back heels are available in peach, lemon, white, blue or grey with black or red heart detail on the toes. There are also glittery versions in black and crystal gold which feature the Westwood 'orb' instead of a 'heart'.
This collaboration with Westwood is set to be the latest best-seller from the Brazil-based shoe company that has revolutionized plastic shoes and which, in its own words, doesn't actually create shoes but instead designs 'fashion accessories'.
"The most amazing thing about this partnership was to be able to create modern products of a very high quality, but at affordable prices," Westwood was caught saying in the media. Melissa is a well known brand in the shoes industry (well, at least in Brazil!). Besides being made from plastic, Melissa Shoes also seem to have a golden hitch somewhere for they sell about 2.3 million pairs a year.
Starting by selling plastic packaging for wine crates, Melissa is selling designer footwear now. The worlds most talented and known fashion designers gave a touch of art to the jelly shoe. So it seems it was not the Swedish Giant H&M who invented haute couture designers for high end fashion but the Brazilian Melissa who convinced Jean-Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler, Alexandre Herchcovitch, J Maskrey, Karim Rashid, and award-winning architect Zaha Hadid do show off the plastic shoes. Since then, Melissa has partnered with leading designers not only from fashion world but also architects and furniture designers.
Where the whole world is showing concern about environment and getting into eco friendly designs, Melissa also has developed an ecologically-aware production process in which every product is recyclable and challenged the world's perception of plastic by fusing its thermoplastic technology. Just to keep you informed - PVC or vinyl, chemically known as (C2H3Cl)n has been reported for being human carcinogen leading to public health hazards.
Well, may be intent is right, but something doesnt seem quite right with the idea... or maybe, its just me who is a little paranoid about taking every step of a day in my life in plastic! But people, you gotta hand it over to the designer, at least we got a choice now.
