How to Audit Routers

    • 1). Use the Ethernet cable to connect your computer to a port on the router.

    • 2). Log in to the computer as your regular user.

    • 3). Launch a Web browser on the computer by double-clicking its desktop icon. Direct the browser to the router's configuration utility, at a Web address that depends on the router's model. For example, for a Linksys WRT54GS, navigate to "192.168.1.1".

    • 4). Instruct the router to list all nodes currently connected to the local network. For example, on a WRT54GS, click "Status," then "Local Network." Click on the "DHCP Clients Table" button. Use the "Client Host Name" field to identify the computers on the local network.
