- 1). Remove as much dirt and grime as possible from the saddle by brushing it off with a clean, dry cloth. You may be able to knock a significant amount of dust and dirt off without applying any kind of cleaning product to the saddle.
- 2). Apply a coating of saddle soap to your clean cloth and gently wipe it on the saddle. Read the instructions for the specific product before using, as some require being applied to a damp cloth and others do not.
- 3). Wipe saddle soap off the saddle with a clean cloth.
- 4). Apply leather conditioner to saddle as directed by product instructions. Apply products evenly to avoid creating dark spots or splotches. Do not use oils on light oil saddles, as they will cause the leather to darken significantly.
