How to Upgrade the Dell OptiPlex GX280 Graphics Card

    • 1). Turn off the computer, and unplug all cables and devices from the ports on the back panel. Rotate the computer so the back panel is facing you, and lay the tower horizontally on its left side.

    • 2). Press on the side panel release buttons on the computer's top and bottom panels. Grasp the side panel and tilt it away from the base of the computer tower until the inside of the computer is visible.

    • 3). Locate the graphics card mounted to the back panel from inside the computer's casing. Lift straight up on the card's retention arm to release the card from its slot on the back panel. Additionally, you may also have to remove a single, Phillips-head screw that mounts the card to the back panel.

    • 4). Grasp the card and carefully lift straight up until it completely disconnects from the PCI card socket on the motherboard. Remove the card from the computer and store it in a static-resistant plastic bag.

    • 5). Place the new graphics card inside the computer. Align the card with slot on the computer's back panel. Place the card's data connector into the appropriate socket on the motherboard. Press down on the card until it firmly connects to the motherboard socket. Attach the card to the back panel with any retaining Phillips-head screws that came with the replacement card. Pull down the retention lever until the card sits firmly inside its slot.

    • 6). Close the side access panel and press down until the panel's retaining buttons snap it into place. Lift the PC tower so it is sitting vertically. Reconnect all cables and external devices, and turn on the computer.

    • 7). Locate the driver installation disc that came with your replacement graphics card. Insert the disc into your CD/DVD drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install the appropriate video drivers.
