The reason you want Vitamins derived from natural resources, is because our body is missing so many Nutrients, due to the pollutants, etc in our Air, Water and soil.

We need to give back to our bodies, what is being taken from them.
Vitamins regulate our metabolism, the slower your metabolism the harder it is to lose weight and get your body back to the shape it should be in.
With the exception of vitamin C, all of the water-soluble vitamins assist enzymes that function in energy transfer or in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
In other words, it will be difficult for our body to break down these nutrients into energy we can use without vitamins.

Why do we need Multivitamins? Everyone critically needs vitamins to work, grow, and develop properly, which makes them extremely important on a everyday basis.
Even if you are one of those people that watches there calorie intake, fats, carbs, excersise, etc.

We do need to watch all of those things mentioned but you must add the vitamins for the full effect.
