Natural Hair Removal

    Sugar Wax

    • For the sugar wax, mix up equal amounts of distilled water, honey and sugar into a cooking pot and add a few drops of lemon to the mixture. Heat the sticky mixture on a stove top at medium-high heat until it begins to boil and take it off the heat when it turns a golden brown color. Take the pot off of the hot burner and let it cool completely before you touch it to your skin. You have just created an all-natural "sugar wax" that you will be using in the exact same way that you use regular hair wax. Waxing with sugar wax is much less painful than waxing with regular hair wax because it only adheres to the hair and not your skin. Since sugar wax is much gentler, it is a better alternative for people with sensitive skin. To remove your unwanted hair with the sugar wax, sprinkle a small bit of talcum powder on the area and spread the wax on your skin in the same direction that your hair is laying. Your hair needs to be a longer length for this to work properly. If you only have stubble, the wax will not have enough hair to grab. Stick a strip of linen or paper to the wax you have spread on your skin and rub a couple times in the direction of your hair growth. After a minute, quickly pull the strip from your skin in the opposite direction of your hair growth. When you are done, rinse off any residue you may still have on your skin and apply a moisturizer.

    Threading

    • Threading is good for removing small areas on your face such as your eyebrows and does not leave your skin red or irritated like tweezing or waxing. Threading is helpful for those with sensitive skin. All you need is a spool of simple sewing thread. Unwind some thread from the spool until you have a length of thread that is about 8 inches or 20 centimeters long. Tie the two ends of the thread together in a simple knot and hold the circle of thread in both hands while you make a few twists in the middle, so that the circle of thread is in two loops. The twists in the middle should be able to slide back and forth. Look in a mirror and make sure you are working in a well-lit area. Hold one loop in each hand and place the twists against your skin directly behind the hairs that you want to remove. Use your fingers to widen the back loop, which will move the twist forward and pull the hairs out. This may take a few tries before you get it right. Your hair needs to be long enough for the thread to grab it. Apply some witch hazel or moisturizer to the area when you are done.
