Here in this article I am going to share some basic tips on how to save electricity at home by following energy efficient practices in your kitchen. Saving electricity at home can go a long way in conserving power and reducing your electricity bills. Kitchen appliances consume a lot of power and you can adopt a number of energy saving practices while making use of these appliances.
Some of the common electrical appliances found in most kitchens and methods to save on power consumption are:
Refrigerators/Freezers
•Do not leave the refrigerator/freezer door open for long period of time.
•Do not over-stuff the refrigerator or the freezer.
•Ensure that you refrigerator/freezer always runs at the optimum temperature recommended by the manufacturer.
•Don't put hot food in the fridge as far as possible. When you put hot food inside the fridge or the freezer it raises the inside temperature. This effectively means that more energy will be required to cool the fridge once again.
Oven
•Keep the oven door closed as far as possible. Don't get into the habit of checking food frequently.
•You can turn off the oven about ten minutes before the cooking is finished and use the residual heat.
•Make use of microwave oven to heat food. This takes less time and hence less of power.
•The seal of your over door must always be tight since a loose seal will permit the heat to escape.
•If your oven is large enough try to plan and cook multiple dishes at one time instead of cooking one dish at a time.

Hotplates
•Don't make use of large hotplate to heat a small vessel. Ensure that the size of the hotplate matches that of the vessel being used for cooking.
•While using a hotplate make use of as little quantity of water as possible. To speed up cooking keep the vessel closed with a lid.
•Instead of boiling simmer while cooking since it consumes far less energy.
