- 1). Clean the tablecloth. Before you begin folding you should make sure that the tablecloth is clean and ready for storage. A vinyl tablecloth can be wiped down with a damp cloth. A fabric tablecloth will need to be laundered.
- 2). Dry the tablecloth. You can dry a vinyl tablecloth with a dry cloth or towel. For a fabric tablecloth, you can dry it in a dryer or hang it up to dry. If you hang the cloth, make sure that the exact center of the cloth is hanging over the clothesline. This will create the perfect crease for properly folding the tablecloth later.
- 3). Smooth the tablecloth with a hot iron if needed to remove any wrinkles and creases in the fabric.
- 4). Fold the tablecloth in half lengthwise, with the top of the cloth facing outward. Line up the corners carefully to ensure the fold is placed in the exact center of the cloth. This fold should be crisp and pressed carefully. When you bring the tablecloth out to use later, this center crease should always be lined up with the center of the table.
- 5). Fold the tablecloth in half lengthwise one more time, so that you have four layers of fabric. The second lengthwise fold should be looser so that it doesn't create a crease as noticeable as the first.
- 6). Fold the tablecloth in half widthwise. Again, line the corners up carefully to ensure that you have the correct placement for the fold. This fold should also be loose so that it does not create a crease.
- 7). Prepare the tablecloth for storage. If you will be hanging the tablecloth, feed the shorter side of the cloth through the hanger and hang it so that an even length of cloth hangs on both sides. If you are storing the cloth on a shelf or in a drawer, fold it in half widthwise once more, or until the cloth is the appropriate size for storage.
