Well as you know there are literally hundreds of thousands of applications that you can purchase and download onto your iPhone, iPad or iPod.
And there are applications that cover just about everything from your entertainment through to business and education.
As a guitarist I'm happy to say that there are a growing number of useful guitar apps for myself and other guitarists to use.
But what should you be looking for when it comes to a guitar application? Should you be looking for a large app with loads of features, loads of images, scales, chord charts? Or should you be looking for small applications that are more focused on one particular area of the guitar? Free apps or paid apps? Well firstly if you look at some of the larger guitar applications that you can download, there are many to choose from and many offer absolutely fantastic resources and excellent learning experiences.
Of course some of the bigger downloads will cost you a little bit more but you should be getting more for your money.
Many of these larger apps come with everything from real backing tracks, fretboard images, chord charts and even music theory knowledge.
However some of them can be a little difficult to navigate and use, so I always suggest reading the reviews in the app store.
At the other end of the spectrum you will see smaller applications that are focused to one particular area of musical study and guitar playing.
You can find everything ranging from an app dedicated to a single metronome, four or five backing tracks or an app that shows you a handful of useful open chords.
The problem with smaller downloads is quite simply that you don't get much for your money, however if it is dedicated to an area of guitar playing you need to learn or they feature a bunch of scales you're trying to master, then it will be well worth the usual $.
99.
But should you go for a large or small iPhone application? Well this is simply all down to you and what you are looking at mastering.
For example if you are new to the guitar and need to know a little bit about everything and go for one of the larger guitar options.
However if you are seeking the answer to a single challenge or single piece of information, then it's best to target your options with a smaller or even free purchase.
Just make sure that if you are looking at spending a lot of money on a single purchase, then read the reviews first.
