- Aquarium eye disease is an infection in the eyes of a fish. If left untreated it can be fatal.
- There are several causes of aquarium eye disease. The most common are fungus, bacterial infections and parasites.
- Aquarium eye disease can cause blindness and odd behavior. If left untreated it will eventually kill the fish.
- The most common symptom of a fungal infection is a cottony white growth over the lens of the eye and similar white growths on the fins. The most common treatment for this problem is Forma-Green or copper sulfate.
- There are many different types of bacterial infections that can damage fish, but the most common symptoms are a clear (or translucent) film over the eyes or other parts of the fish's body. Commonly prescribed treatments include Gentamycin and several types of sulfate.
- Symptoms vary from parasite to parasite, but flukes are the most common. A fish with flukes may flash its irritated gills or rub them against objects. Flukes need to be removed from the aquarium with a treatment of De-Los.
