- 1). Thread one end of your string through the eyelet of your fishing weight and tie it to the weight. Adjust the knot on the weight so it is in the middle of the eyelet.
- 2). Pinch the string with your fingers just above the eyelet of the weight.
- 3). Draw the weight away from your hand until it is at the length that you want your pendulum to be; cut the string 12 inches from the point where you are pinching the string with your fingers. If you plan on using your pendulum for dowsing (a method of decision making) over paper, as a means to keep time in music or for hypnosis, you will want no more than 10 inches of string between the tips of your fingers and the fishing weight. This will make it easier to control over close surfaces. For other purposes, leave the string longer. You can always wrap the excess string around the palm of your hand and drop the weight just the length that you need.
