How to Install an Undercounter Dishwasher

    • 1). Use your screwdriver to remove the bottom plate on the front of the dishwasher to gain access to the electrical and water supply lines within. Locate the water intake valve beneath the machine and wrap its threads two to three times with your plumber's tape. Install your brass elbow connector to the intake valve threads to allow for movement once the copper feed is attached. Use your wrench to tighten the brass elbow connector in place.

    • 2). Shut off the hot water valve located beneath your sink. Attach your flexible mesh water line to the valve using your wrench. Apply two turns of plumber's tape to the valve threads prior to tightening. Cut a small hole in any cabinet walls between your sink and your dishwasher using your drill and hole cutter. Place the holes at the rear of the cabinet to avoid any interference with normal use. Slide the flexible water line through the hole and into the space where the dishwasher will rest.

    • 3). Apply two to three turns of plumber's tape to the brass elbow fitting you installed at the bottom of the machine. Attach your flexible water line to the brass elbow using your wrench.

    • 4). Locate the water outlet at the bottom of your dishwasher. Attach the flexible drain hose that comes included with the machine using your screwdriver. Slide the end of the hose over the water outlet and tighten the metal clamp until it is firmly in place.

    • 5). Connect your power wires to the dishwasher. Dishwashers do not come with outlet plugs, and as a result they must be hardwired directly into your home electrical circuit. Have a licensed electrician run the power wire to your new dishwasher. Make sure the circuit breaker that corresponds to your new dishwasher power line is in the "OFF" position. You must be sure that the electric line is NOT transmitting electricity during your dishwasher installation.

    • 6). Connect your power line to the dishwasher by inserting it into the electrical box located beneath the machine. Slide the power line into the box and clamp it in place with the included wire clamp and your screwdriver. Strip the ends of your power wires using your wire cutters and twist them together with the same color wires from the machine. Use wire nuts to fasten the wires together, then cover the entire connection from the tip of the nut to a distance of 2 inches up the wire with rubber electrical tape. The ground wire will typically be green in color. Attach this wire to the copper screw provided and fasten it in place with your screwdriver.

    • 7). Use your metal strapping to suspend the water and drain lines in any cabinets and along any cabinet walls they may pass. Cut the metal strapping with your metal shears and screw it in place using your drywall screws and screw gun.

    • 8). Slide the dishwasher into position beneath the counter top. Adjust the height and balance of the machine with its adjustable feet. Turn the feet in a clockwise motion to shorten its stance and in a counterclockwise motion to heighten its stance. Locate the installation brackets at the top and front of the dishwasher. These metal straps provide several holes to bridge the gap and fit the length of any counter top. Fasten the strap to the underside of your counter top using the screws provided and your screwdriver.

    • 9). Open the hot water valve beneath your sink. Turn on the circuit breaker that controls your dishwasher circuit. Try the machine with an empty test-run and check for leaks or any sign of wobble or shake. Reinstall the lower panel.
