In order to know how to litter train your cat you must first understand the way your cat thinks.
In a perfect world your cat will learn from the mother or siblings to use the litter pan just by observing their behavior.
But what happens when the mother or the other cats aren't there anymore? We all know that breeders sell or give away cats and other cats are strays.
Adapting to a new environment can be stressful for any cat regardless of age so how do we make this process easier? The most effective method is called classical conditioning.
From my own experience, how difficult it is to litter train a cat has depended on several different factors and these factors will often determine their willingness to cooperate.
How quickly they catch on is the logical factor but a cat who is acting out my just continue to act out so we should look at some reasons.
Some reasons include: 1.
) The location of the litter box is not somewhere the cat likes it 2.
) Your cat may not like the brand of litter 3.
) The cat may be stressed 4.
) Your cat may be sick (this is of course the worst case scenario and there will likely be other signs if this is the case) Cats have different instincts than humans so they must be handled differently when disciplining.
It's better trying to understand them than simply yell at them.
Scolding an animal will only make them fear you or act aggressively and that never solves anything.
Cats bring people a lot of happiness and it's just as important that we make them as happy as they make us.
Before you go and spend a lot of money on a vet (or if you have and the vet didn't have the right answer for you) you do have options.
Don't give up easily.
