All-terrain vehicle racing is not only quickly becoming an off-road adventure for families, but a competitive sport as well. In New Jersey, ATV trails allow both children and adults to practice their skills on the back of ATVs, which are otherwise known as four-wheelers, three-wheelers and quad bikes. While most of the parks are private, passes can be purchased. Several parks also offer racing events that spectators can attend. - The Atco MX Park is located in Atco, New Jersey, and is home to a drag racing facility. The park is open from March until November and is open to racers who practice motocross, two-wheel ATV racing and four-wheel ATV racing. The facility also features a lighted track for night practicing and racing. The track requires riders younger than 18 to be accompanied by a parent or have a notarized waiver form, printed in color, from the American Motorcyclist Association. Practice hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Gate fees are $5 and practice fees are $35. During race days, riders must sign in between 7 and 8:30 a.m. for day races (held on Saturdays and Sundays), and between 1 and 2:30 p.m. for night races (held only on Saturdays). Practice for day races starts at 8:30 a.m. and racing begins at about 10 a.m. Practice for night races starts at 2:30 p.m., with racing at about 4 p.m. Gate fees for racing events are $15, with entry fees of $35. Spectators pay $15 for adults, $10 for children 12 to 15 years old and $5 for children 6 to 11 years old. According to the track, riders must have AMA memberships. If they do not, memberships are available for purchase for $39 per year when riders sign in.
