Ford Motor Company sold Fairlane model automobiles between 1955 and 1971. It was named after Henry Ford's estate in Michigan, which was called "Fair Lane." The Fairlane replaced the Crestline as Ford's premier, full-sized car and its trademark was a stainless-steel "Fairlane stripe" down the side. The 1967 model introduced very few changes to the 1966 model. The Fairlane came in three different "trim levels," or feature packages: the basic, the 500, and the XL. - You could purchase either a sedan or a station wagon in the basic trim level. The sedan came with either 2 or 4 doors; the station wagon came with 4 doors. Both models came with either a V6 (6 cylinder) or V8 engine.
The basic Fairlane models had an MSRP, or manufacturer's suggested retail price, of $2,339 to $2,643 upon release. They weighed 2,782 lbs to 3,198 pounds. - You could purchase a sedan, coupe, convertible, or station wagon in the 500 trim level. The sedan came with 2 or 4 doors, the coupe and the convertible came with 2 doors, and the station wagon came with 4 doors. All models came with either a V6 or a V8 engine.
The 500 models had an MSRP of $2,417 to $3,007 upon release. They weighed between 2,802 and 3,386 pounds. - In the XL trim level, you could purchase a coupe or convertible. Both came with only 2 doors, and they were available with either a V6 or a V8. The V8 models were also available in a GT level, which means that they had a higher level of performance.
The 500 XL models had an MSRP of $2,619 to $3,064 upon release. They weighed between 2,870 and 3,607 pounds. - The standard engine for the V6 models displaced 200 CID (cubic inches) and had 120 horsepower. For the V8 models, the standard engine was the 289 CID with 200 hp, but you could opt for a 390 CID engine with 320 horsepower or a 427 CID engine with 410 horsepower.
- All models except the station wagon with a V6 had a 116 inch wheel base with 6.50 x 13 tires. They were 197 inches long, 74.7 inches wide, and they had a front tread - the distance between the front tires - of 58.5 inches with a rear tread of 58.2 inches. The V8 models had the same exterior measurements, but they used 7.00 x 13 tires.
