Cat Talk!

Are you a cat lover? Do you know some facts about your cat? Well, after reading this article, you will see your beloved pet in a different angle.
Did you know that? Cats can be either right or left-handed; it can be shown if there is a preference for one paw over the other when it comes to usage.
Normally, cats have five toes on each paw, but there are some cats that have more than five toes on their front and hind paws, they are called polydactyl cats.
"Poly" means "many" while "dactyl" means "fingers", these kinds of cats are also known as "mitten cats", "thumb cats", and "Hemingway cats".
A cat's fur has actually 60,000 hairs per square inch! Imagine that! And shedding can be basically controlled by hormones, temperature, and light.
Also, anxious cats tend to shed more hair.
You can also observe a cat licking its fur because it is its own way of keeping cool during hot weather.
Like dogs, they sweat through the pads of their feet! A healthy and normal domestic cat can reach the speed 31 miles/hour, but it can only maintain this speed for about a minute or so.
It can also leap up to a width of a swimming pool.
Most cats are color blind, but don't underestimate their sense of seeing, because they only need 1/6 of light the humans require in order to see.
When it comes to their sense of smell, they are apparently superior to us.
We, humans, have 5 million odor-sensitive cells in our noses while cats have- 200 million! Wow! Get a whiff of that! They are also at the top of us when we talk about their hearing ability.
Human beings can hear sounds up to 20,000 Hertz, dogs can hear up to 40,000 Hertz, but cats can hear up to 100,000 Hertz! Cats can even hear electrical currents in cords.
And also remember, cats like to hear whispering.
So, no secret is safe when there are cats around.
But aside from the abovementioned senses, they have with them a very unique ability to feel things in their environment -- sensing through their whiskers.
Their whiskers were specialized to act as their antennae.
They are used to navigate, detect movement and judge the width of an opening.
They can also indicate the mood of the cat, so, you better watch out if the whiskers are drawn back because this means that the cat is angry.
Now, when it comes to their food preference, they actually like their food at body temperature.
They want to eat a freshly killed prey than a spoiled one.
They also want their food to be cut into 1/4 inch chunks, most especially when they are sick.
They also prefer cold tomato juice than milk.
Cats don't have enough enzymes that digest milk.
But, if you really need to feed your cat some milk, be sure to give it a couple of teaspoons, because too much of it might cause gas and even diarrhea.
If you have a fat cat, you don't have to give it some starving diets, because these diets can kill them.
Their liver fats break down too fast causing a disease called ketosis.
So, now that you have read some interesting facts about your cat, you should know how to treat them well.
Love them and take good care of them, because they're not just pets, they are precious like us.
