How to Replace Your Laptop Memory Module

Replacing your dell laptop Memory module is a fairly easy process that should take you no more than about 10 to 15 minutes tops. The only tool that you will need is a screwdriver. The following article is intended to help you install a new dell laptop Memory module if you find out that you need one. The manufacturer may try to convince you that you need to both purchase the replacement part from them and have it installed by a professional technician, but neither of these is actually the case. There are a number of online sources that specialize in trading used laptop parts where you can look for great prices on perfectly functional products. Once you have the replacement memory, you can install it yourself following the steps that are outlined below.

However, it is important to note that the instructions in this article are only applicable to people with laptops that have their memory modules located behind access panels. This is not the case with all laptops, and if yours does not fall into this category, it may indeed be necessary to enlist the help of an authorized, trained technician in replacing your dell laptop Memory module.

Follow these steps:

1. Start by shutting off your computer and unplugging any cords powering the system.

2. Next, look for where there is a panel with access to your computer's memory module. The most common place for this to be located is on the under side of your laptop. If you cannot find it, you can look at your user's manual for its specific location.

3. Once you have found the panel, you need to remove it by first removing the screws that are holding it in place. Then put the screws and the panel to the side in a safe place (do not forget where you put them).

4. The next step will be to take out the memory itself. To do this, you will need to undo the clamps that are likely holding it in place. Then, carefully tilt the dell laptop Memory module to about a 45-degree angle before pulling it out completely.

5. After that, line up the notch on the memory with the corresponding notch on the memory slot and finesse it into place using the same 45-degree-angling motion.

6. When the new memory is in place, you will need to replace all the clamps in order to secure it.

7. Then, retrieve the memory access panel and put it back onto the computer.

8. Fasten the access panel using the same screws.

9. Finally, plug the power cords back in and turn your computer back on. Once you have done this, the physical part of the process is done. You may need to adjust some settings on the computer. For more information about this, you can look at your manual (this is the book that came with your laptop and tells you all about its various parts and how they work).
