- Draw a sketch of the design for the veil that you want and have a look at the materials that are available to you. When you view different decorations then you will have a better idea of how you want to create yours. Practice putting together the different designs and even create different drawings to choose the best one. Once you have made your decision, purchase the materials.
The basic items that you will need include 18 inches of 9-yard wide Russian veil material. This can be purchased locally or ordered online. You also need clear thread, a sewing needle, two clear combs, fabric glue and the extra decorations that you are using. Common decorations include flowers, rhinestones and ribbon. - Measure and cut your piece of veil at 18 inches in length and 9 inches wide. Cut 8 to 10 inches of thread and insert it into the needle. Take the piece of material and weave the threaded needed in and out of each hole in the first row and pull the thread at the end to gather that material at the one side. Repeat the process for the other side. The rows are on the 9-inch wide sections, not the 18-inch length sides. Now you have two gathered sides. This is where the combs will be placed.
If you are using ribbon, measure and cut several pieces to wrap around the clear combs to hide it. You can tie them into tassels or wrap them around the body or other ideas that you may have. Sew each side where the veil has been gathered onto a comb. If you only want your veil to fall over your face instead of slanting it, then only bunch up one side of the veil. - Attach the flowers onto the comb or another section of the veil. Use fabric glue to attach the flowers. If you aren't going to attach them to the comb, cut out a piece of felt and glue it onto the veil in the shape of the flowers but a bit smaller and glue the flowers to the felt. This will add extra support to the weight of the flowers. Use a touch of glue for rhinestones or other decorations that you want to add.
