4-way Switch Wiring

• 1). Connect at the light the power source white wire to the light fixture white wire. Connect the black power source wire to the white wire going to the 3-way switch 1. Code the white wire at both ends (use tape to show it is a hot wire). Connect the black light wire to the black wire going to 3-way switch 1.
  
  
• 2). Connect, at 3-way switch 1, the black wire from the light fixture to the black wire to the 4-way switch. Connect the white wire coded for hot to the bottom screw (dark screw). Connect the red wire (from the 4-way switch) to the single screw (light-colored). Connect the white wire (from the 4-way switch) to the screw opposite the red wire (light-colored screw).
  
  
• 3). Connect at the 4-way switch the red wire from 3-way switch 1 to the bottom left screw. Connect the white wire from 3-way switch 1 to the bottom right screw. Connect the black wire from 3-way switch 1 to the black wire from 3-way switch 2. Connect the red wire from 3-way switch 2 to the upper left screw. Connect the white wire from 3-way switch 2 to the upper right screw.
  
  
• 4). Connect at 3-way switch 2 the white wire to the bottom screw (side with two screws, and light-colored screw). Connect the black wire to the top screw (side with two screws, and dark-colored screw). Connect the red wire to the single screw on the side (light-colored screw).
