- 1). Open the doors of the cabinets and remove the screws that secure the hinges to the doors using a screwdriver.
- 2). Sand the surface of the door panels and the cabinet housings with an orbital sander equipped with a 600-grit sanding disc until you remove all of the paint from the surface of the wood. Use a flexible sanding pad to remove the paint from beveled surfaces you cannot reach with the orbital sander.
- 3). Wipe the surface of the wood thoroughly with a tack cloth.
- 4). Apply a coat of cherrywood stain to the surface of the wood with a microfiber rag. Wait approximately 20 minutes and then wipe the excess stain off. Allow 12 to 24 hours for it to dry and then apply a second coat in the same manner that you applied the first coat. If you would like a darker cherry finish, you can apply a third coat as well.
